FEATURES

sustainability.

we enhance people, the planet and our company in everything we do.

With sustainability ethics in mind, Loll aims to play a role in a circular economy where plastics made will be recycled continuously, thus reducing waste. Did you know all Loll products can be recycled at the end of its life? We were founded on principles of efficient and responsible use/reuse of materials, which is why during the production process we recycle more than 88 percent of our manufacturing waste and the remainder is incinerated to make electricity. Striving towards zero waste has created recycling programs for anything that can be recycled. It's impossible not to leave an environmental footprint and we do all that we can to mitigate it while making maintenance free furniture so you can appreciate the outdoors.

Since 2005, we have recycled more than 135 million milk jugs into modern outdoor furniture.

Recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE)
All Loll outdoor furniture is made with recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE), one of the most commonly used plastics in the U.S. Because of its longevity, durability, and lack of maintenance, HDPE is used in countless practical applications, such as food containers, outdoor playground equipment, cutting boards, bathroom partitions, and boat cabinetry. Loll’s recycled material is sourced primarily from single-use milk jug containers.

Post-consumer and post-industrial content
Post-consumer content is a material that has been used by consumers and diverted or recovered from waste destined for a landfill. Post-industrial content (also called pre-consumer content) is scrap that has been diverted or recovered during the manufacturing process. Colored material, which makes up the majority of our products, is post-consumer recycled HDPE sourced mainly from single-use milk jugs. The black material in our products is post-industrial recycled HDPE. An estimated eight recycled milk jugs are used in every pound of weight in a Loll chair.

Recycled – and recyclable
In making our modern outdoor furniture, we generate waste, too. But, more than 88 percent of the waste from Loll’s manufacturing process is sent to a local recycling plant where it is recycled again. From the HDPE plastic to the aluminum inserts and stainless steel fasteners, Loll furniture is all recyclable. Through our material reutilization program, customers can send products or parts back to us, and we’ll ensure all the materials are properly recycled and don’t end up in a landfill.

Loll colors
Loll’s material is nonporous and will not collect dirt internally. All Loll HDPE material is colored with pigments that are added during the process of extruding the sheet. Colors are not a surface application but are consistent all the way through the material. All material has a UV package added with the pigment to reduce the effects of the sun and help to deter fading. White, black and darker colors resist fading more than lighter colors.

Since 2008, Loll and other local businesses have come together to improve the local watershed.

This annual spring clean-up event which began as a small company tree planting in Loll’s first year of operation has now grown to include multiple businesses and volunteers.  Dubbed “Clean Yer Creek” the event consists of volunteers gathering hundreds of pounds of trash out of multiple creeks and planting trees along the creek beds.  Spearheaded by Loll Designs, but with the help of many other local businesses, the aim is to protect the water quality of Lake Superior and enhance our local ecosystem.  With the growth of this event, the hope is to also spread awareness on the importance of environmental stewardship in our community. Seeking to align with the sustainability mission of the event, each year instead of using plastic bags, grain bags from a local brewery, Bent Paddle are reused to collect the garbage.  Additionally Duluth City Parks partners with us for the event, and any items that can be recycled, like metal shrapnel, bikes, tires, etc are taken to the recycling facility.  We also consult the City Forester on which tree varieties are optimal, considering their success against animals and climate changes. Our aim is to ensure they are planted in regions that can address erosion and that they receive the correct protection like fencing and tree buds to sustain their survival. To further encourage participation and foster a sense of community, a local restaurant donates food and a brewery donates event space so volunteers can convene and share experiences after the event.

We donate annually 1% of the gross sales from all pieces in the Lollygagger Collection to charitable groups.Loll is proud member of 1% for the Planet, a global movement of companies donating at least 1% of their annual net revenues to environmental organizations worldwide. A member since 2008, Loll is grateful to be a part of this alliance of businesses financially committed to positive environmental change. At Loll, we think globally and act locally with our donations. A big thanks goes out to the groups listed below for their earnest environmental efforts, but also to our customers who make our donations possible in the most significant way.

Made in the U.S.A. to help local U.S economies

Manufactured in Duluth, MNLoll purchases materials from the USA to manufacture our products in the USA. This means we reduce shipping distances to our facility. Many products made in China actually start their life in the USA as raw materials shipped to China to be manufactured. Then, they are shipped back to the USA as finished goods for distribution. By purchasing products from Loll and other companies who also manufacture in the USA, you help local U.S. economies. For that, we thank you.

Cradle to Cradle® Certifications Emphasize Loll Designs' Commitment to the Environment and Product Transparency

he Cradle to Cradle Products Innovation Institute works with companies to set them on a path of continuous improvement, prioritizing the environment and human health.  With many certifications out there, and with even more of them being self-declared, we felt Cradle to Cradle® was the one to pursue in that it demanded third-party verification. Moreover, they provide a comprehensive overview of your company, evaluating you in five categories including material health, material reutilization, renewable energy and carbon management, water stewardship, and social fairness.

Upon being thoroughly investigated in these five categories, we attained an overall Cradle to Cradle Certified SILVER™ rating for 84% of our product line.  Earning Cradle to Cradle SILVER rating in the material health category means the material makeup of our products have undergone a complete review of their human and environmental health characteristics, and have been deemed acceptable or preferable.  In addition to providing product traceability, this certification also provides legitimacy for the many social and environmental pursuits we do for our employees and the community.  To read more about Loll’s Cradle to Cradle to certification, please see our blog post.

FAQ

What kind of material is Loll made from?

Loll products are made with recycled high-density polyethylene (HDPE) primarily from milk jugs (#2 plastics). Milk jugs are used because the plastic is closest to white, which allows us to create Loll’s variety of colors. More about loll materials...

Does the color fluctuate between products?

We have tried our best to accurately represent product colors on our website. However, due to the nature of electronic media, color of actual products may differ slightly from how they appear on this website and on your particular computer.

Similar to other materials, like wood or fabric, our colors may vary. Loll products are made from post-consumer recycled material, and color and texture may differ from product to product and within a finished product. For example, an Adirondack chair is made with 22 parts, and some parts may be made from different sheets, which may have varying color tones. We work closely with our material supplier on quality control for the best consistency possible, but material color may naturally fluctuate.

Is there ultraviolet (UV) stability in Loll material?

Yes. Loll products are manufactured with a highly weatherable high-density polyethylene (HDPE) sheet. Our post-consumer resin includes a superior UV additive designed for plastics that improves exterior durability, greatly reducing characteristic surface degradation caused by sunlight and other UV light sources. Pigments/color concentrates are formulated with the best weathering pigments available in the market in a particular color space.

Will the color of my product change over time?

In most applications, probably not. Further, darker colors are naturally much more resistant to change than lighter colors.
When products are placed in full direct sun, testing has shown NO significant change of color over time for:

• Black
• Charcoal Grey
• Cloud White
• Sky Blue
• Navy Blue

Is fading covered under warranty?

No. The sun is very hard on materials that have constant direct exposure, and we cannot guarantee the material color will not change over time. However, the high-density polyethylene (HDPE) material that Loll uses has a UV stabilizer and is very resistant to fading. The color is not a finish coat; it is a pigment embedded in the material throughout. You will never have to paint or stain Loll furniture. For more details, read our full warranty.

Can Loll furniture be exposed to chlorine?

Our high-density polyethylene material will withstand chlorine, and has been placed in many zero depth pools and waterpark projects.

What about placing Loll in sea-side environments?

Our hardware is stainless steel and is meant to resist the elements. However, a salt water environment is very harsh and even stainless steel will begin to show rust over time.  Keep in mind that surface rust on a bolt does not mean the product is failing, and fortunately most hardware on Loll furniture is either hidden or discretely placed.  In any case, rinsing your Loll furniture regularly with fresh water will help avert hardware rust.

What's that on the bolts?

All bolts come standard with a thread coating to reduce bolts loosening after assembly.

Care & Maintenance

What kind of maintenance will I have to do to keep my furniture looking good?

Loll furniture will not rot and requires no paint, stain or ongoing maintenance to keep its beautiful appearance. It is a good idea to occasionally inspect the furniture fastening to ensure bolts are not loosening. Daily expansion and contraction caused by heating and cooling can occasionally loosen hardware.

How should I clean my furniture?

Most often, a simple hose-off will do the trick. If there is more dirt, a simple wet rag and natural spray cleaner should be sufficient. Microfiber towels also work great. If there is dirt embedded in the texture, use mild soap and water and a stiff but gentle-bristled brush. You can power wash your furniture if you like that sort of thing.

What should I do with my furniture when winter comes?

Nothing! Our durable HDPE can be left out year-round. Designed to weather all four seasons, there is no need to store or cover your furniture in the winter. Our only recommendation is if by chance you receive an abnormal amount of snow, like feet upon feet, to give your furniture a little relief and carefully shovel some of that snow off of it.

Can I take my furniture apart?

Once assembled, Loll products are intended to stay assembled.

Is it safe to keep my Loll furniture by the fire pit?

Yes! Just don’t throw it in the fire. The melting point of our material is 275°F – which means if you do have a problem with melting, you’ve got bigger problems to worry about first.

My dog ate my Lollygagger Lounge arm. Now what?

Fret not if a part of your Loll becomes damaged! Our products are made so that parts can be replaced. Please email us, we can provide a quote for the replacement parts needed.

General

Who designs your products?

We do! We also work with outside designers from time to time, including Eric Pfeiffer, Studio Murmur, David Salmela, Ralph Rapson and others.

Where are your products made?

All of our products are designed and manufactured in-house at our headquarters in Duluth, MN, USA. We are proud to offer made-in-America products.

Where can I see your products, or do you have a showroom?

Please keep in mind that showroom will only have a selection of loll products.  If you are looking for a specific product, please contact ahead to confirm what we have on display.
